Tina Namoomba

Tina Namoomba is a burgeoning Zambian songstress who has always had a passion for music.

Her background is at any rate unusual but interestingly diverse. Her early life and upbringing was divided amongst three nations – Kenya, Zimbabwe, Botswana. As a child, all she ever dreamed of was to become a musician. Perhaps this is because she comes from a family of musicians. The Mwesa name, which is her maternal name, will ring bells for any Zambian music enthusiast because it has occupied an active musical space through the years, either in the background or on stage, starting with the post-independence era to what may be termed as the renaissance of Zambian music in the late 1990s through the 2000s. Her maternal grandfather, the late Mr. John Mwesa, was an iconic music teacher and musician who co-authored one of the earliest indigenous Zambian text books on Music, and went on to influence and teach a lot of local musicians in his time. Kelvin Mwesa, an uncle of hers, and no doubt a well-known local sensation had a stint on the local music scene as a prominent artist who collaborated with names such as JK, MC Wabwino, Danny, to name a few. Alex Mwesa, a music teacher who is currently an export of Zambia to Botswana, is another one of her uncles who co-founded what is arguably Zambia’s greatest legacy of longevity in as far as quartet music is concerned – The Heritage Brothers –  a vocal group that has, during their 30 years of existence (and counting), toured Europe and Africa delivering their idiosyncratic melodies and beautiful vocal harmonies to audiences that have been left enchanted. Her uncles have had their fair share of fame as much adored and coveted musicians.

It seemed then, with such a rich musical atmosphere, that Tina’s destiny was inextricably tied and woven into an enduring fabric of music. Her desire to become a singer grew, which led her to enroll for a Bachelor of Arts in Music at Rusangu University where she finished her studies and graduated in 2016.

Currently based in Lusaka, she works as a peripatetic Music Teacher. Tina is a lover of Jazz and other contemporary genres, which often influence her music. Tina is devoted to Gospel music, and desires to use her music as a medium to spread her messages about God.  She is multi-skilled with instruments. She plays Piano, Silimba (African Xylophone), Saxophone, and is currently working on her Guitar skills. Soon she will be launching her debut studio album “Don’t You Walk Away” which consists of a mix of various contemporary gospel genres.
